As those of you who are friends with me on Facebook may well know, I’ve had a baby! My son was born on April 24th at 3:59 a.m., weighing at 8 lbs 2 oz. He and I are both healthy. I am ridiculously proud and happy to be a parent, and I’m enjoying the time with my new baby while I figure out some of the parenting basics during my maternity leave from my day job. Not that I’ll have it all down pat in a mere few weeks! I expect it will be a continual learning process, and I am excited to share this journey with my son as he grows and develops as a human being. I really can’t say how dazzled, how exhausted, and how overwhelmed I am!
That said, I’ve not only been taking maternity leave from my day job, but also from my work as a writer while I’ve been recovering and adjusting. The novel that’s out in the wilds, seeking representation among agents, has been largely left unattended. I’ve also been trying to find a home for a short story. My newest project, which clocked in at about 52,000 words before I went into labor, is waiting to be picked up right where I left off. I hope to do that soon!
But, happily, until then, I get to embrace a new stage in my life–and introduce my baby to the big, wide world.
